Subject: Fwd: Change of Address Regulations
Over the past few weeks many of you have heard the news about a proposed
regulation which requires non-US Citizens to notify the Immigration and
Naturalization Service of any changes of address.
The notification must be filed within 10 days of the
change.
While this rule is not new, it is now mandatory and will be enforced. The
enforcement part is the key change in this regulation and the reason for our
notification to you.
Informing the INS of your current address is simple and should not take
more than five minutes of your time.
The Department of Justice/Immigration and Naturalization Service has
issued a form called "Form AR-11 - Alien's Change of Address Card". Copies of
this form can be obtained at the INS website
http://www.ins.gov and downloading the form.
To complete the form, you simply need to provide the information
requested:
1. Your name (making sure your last/family name is in CAPITAL
letters)
2. Your purpose for being in the US: visitor, student, Permanent Resident,
temporary worker, etc.
3. Your country of citizenship
4. Your date of birth (month/day/year)
5. Your "A" number. If you a Legal Permanent Resident of the US or
pending adjustment, you will have an "A" number. If you hold F1/F2, J1/J2, H1B,
TN, O-1 or other temporary status, write your I-94 number here.
6. Your present/new address and let the INS know if this is a temporary
address.
7. Your last address
8. The name and address of the school you attend or name and address of
your employer (if you are on Optional Practical Training or Academic Training)
9. Your "Port of Entry" into the US (where you entered the US)
10. Date of entry
11. When your stay in the US expires (if not a Permanent Resident).
If you hold F or J status, indicate the end date of your program as
indicated on your Form I-20 or IAP-66. If you have a status other than F or J,
the end date can be found on your I-94 card.
12. Your signature and date of signature.
The card is divided into two sections. You only need to send the TOP
section to the INS. The address can be found at the bottom of the card.
Once you've mailed this card in, you have done your part in maintaining
your current address with the INS. Make sure you remember to do so each time
you move. We encourage you to keep a copy of the form you send INS with a
notation of when you mailed it.
If you are an international student, faculty, or staff member, please make
sure that ISO always has your current physical address and telephone
number on file as well.
