The Restorative Justice program run by Alternatives, Inc. is an exciting initiative in over thirty-five public schools to help young people learn skills to resolve conflict without violence. It uses a website to collect evaluation data from these schools into a central database. We are looking for an intern to reconfigure this website (www.peerjury.com).

Alternatives, Inc. is a not-for-profit youth and family service agency established in 1971, serving Chicago's northeast communities. Alternatives’ mission is to facilitate personal development, strengthen family relationships, and enhance community well-being. Located in the Uptown neighborhood, Alternatives serves 3,000 youth and families annually through creative and innovative youth development and counseling programs. The website is currently designed for a Coldfusion host running on one of our servers. We want to convert the website to an IIS host and a .NET web environment. We have an Access database currently accessible from the website with the capability to add records to two tables in the database. We want to add the capability to search and edit the records in addition to creating new records in these two tables, and we would like to provide login security to the database from the website.

The ideal candidate will have experience with ASP.NET or VisualBasic.NET used to interface with a Microsoft Access 2003 database and will be looking for an opportunity to complete a real-world project. The Autism Legislation Project is a nationwide cooperative effort comprised of primarily volunteer law school students seeking to create a comprehensive body of legislative research to aid in reforming autism legislation on both state and federal levels. Description

Scope of Internship:
The Intern will be responsible for modifying an existing physical inventory software program which was developed in MS Access software by the IT Staff of the Hong Kong Consulate for use at the Canadian Consulate General, Chicago.

Statement of Intern Duties:
Using Microsoft Access, the Intern will modify the existing inventory program and databases to:

• Developing separate inventory databases, for the crown-leased office, crown-owned official residence and crown-leased storage facilities in Chicago, the structure of which is modeled closely upon the Hong Kong database.
• Making software programming modifications to the program’s table Table Structure (as documented in appendix a of the technical guide) “Assets”, “Items”, “Transfer” and “Writeoff” database tables as required to correspond with the physical configuration of the Chicago crown-leased office and the crown-owned Official Residence.
• Making software programming modifications to the program’s Query Structure (documented in appendix b of the technical guide) to correspond to the revised table structure.
• Making software programming modifications to the program’s Macro Structure (documented in appendix b of the technical guide) to correspond with changes made to the program table and query structure as a result of the aforementioned modifications.
• Making programming modifications to integrate the inventory program with a T402 barcode label printer.
• Carrying out software testing to ensure that the revised databases programs are fully functional and free of programming “bugs”.
• Entering inventory and procurement data to the program using source documents such as LPOs, purchase documents and data extracted from IMS.
• Tagging and numbering all physical assets at both the Crown Owned Official Residence and the Crown-leased office.
• Updating all system documentation (i.e. technical and user guides) to reflect programming changes and modified functionality.
• The resultant product of these modifications will be a fully functional computerized inventory system which replicates all of the functionality of the original program.

This position is responsible for supporting level I Help Desk calls to the IT Department, paying all IT Department invoices and statements, and assisting in the testing and implementation of the new ERP system. In addition, this position will be responsible for assisting the IT Manager and Supervisor of IT Network & Infrastructure with daily operations.

Prior IT support desk experience preferred. One year of customer service experience required.

Internship Description:

The ideal candidate for this Web Development internship is a student seeking to gain real-world Web development experience with client and/or Dunkirk Systems-internal projects. The type of work to be performed can include new development, enhancements to existing code, troubleshooting, quality assurance and bug-fixing, in addition to business and technical analysis, research and documentation of work performed. Actual work performed will depend on project availability, scheduling and fit for the skills of the intern.

Flexibility will be part of the work schedule, working with both Mike Maddaloni of Dunkirk Systems and the intern's schedule to meet a commitment of 10 to 15 hours a week. Mike and the intern will meet at a minimum once a week to review, discuss and work on tasks. This can be either on campus or another agreed-upon location (e.g. Starbucks). Communication will be in person and by phone, email and instant messaging. The intern will write a weekly status report to Dunkirk Systems and any school contacts as required.

The intern should have practical knowledge of developing Web-based applications and Web sites. Experience with using HTML, JavaScript, ColdFusion, MS Access and other scripting languages and databases, as well as experience with graphic design programs, are a plus. The candidate should have their own computer or access to one. The tasks to be performed will not require the use of a specific Web development tool/editor. Dunkirk Systems will provide a virtual Web server environment for the development and testing of all code and databases.

We are currently seeking a part time System Intern to join our office located in Chicago, IL. Upon successful completion of this internship, there could be an opportunity for full time employment upon graduation.

Responsibilities:

• Analyze business group information: identify required changes to system, prepare data for import, assist in data cleansing, etc.
• Perform User Acceptance Testing for new enhancements and user issues
Create and update user documentation and training materials as needed

• Work with Client Relationship Management (CRM) System Power Users to set up new users, system security and system queries
