A Word From The Library
ONCE YOU GRADUATE: ACCESS TO RESEARCH RESOURCES

Congratulations to this year's graduates!

For those of you finishing your CTI programs this year, you should be aware of your Alumni library privileges and other sources for quality information in your field. If you ever need to research technologies, industries or vendors, you may sometimes need to go beyond the free Web to find in-depth, reliable information.

With your DePaul Alumni ID, you can still use DePaul’s online resources such as Books 24 X 7, ACM Digital Library and Gartner, but you need to access them from a DePaul library or campus lab.

If you’ll be relocating to another city, be aware that most public universities allow on-site public access to online resources, since they are funded by taxpayers.

More information about Alumni library privileges is available at the Library Web site.

Universities designated as Centers of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education are eligible to apply for scholarships and grants through both the Federal and Department of Defense Information Assurance Scholarship Programs.

UNDERGRAD RESEARCH @ CTI
Undergrad Research @ CTI

CTI Undergraduate Eric Puryear published a paper and poster at the National Conferences for Undergraduate Research conference in Virginia in late April.
Eric (left) is pictured with 2002 Nobel Prize winner Dr. John Fenn— whose work in proteomics is responsible for the birth of the industry that is Eric's area of research— and CTI Instructor Dave Angulo. Their work in this area holds promise for early detection of breast and prostate cancer.

Congratulations Eric!

Events
CTI COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY
This year's commencement ceremony for CTI will take place on Sunday, June 12, 2005 at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. By now, all our graduates should be close to finishing their degrees and planning to celebrate with family and friends. Official announcements about the ceremony were mailed on May 11, 2005. Included in the announcement is information about when and where to pick up caps and gowns as well as when and where to go on the day of the ceremony.

Here are some commonly asked questions:

Do my guests need tickets to attend the ceremony?
No tickets are required.

What if I cannot pick up my cap and gown on June 8 or 9?
You may have someone pick up your cap and gown for you on June 8 or 9. They just need to bring a letter, written and signed by you, indicating your permission. Alternatively, you may pick up your cap and gown on the day of the ceremony at the Allstate Arena.

What time should I arrive at the Allstate Arena on the day of the ceremony?
Students should plan to arrive at the Skyline Room (directly across from the North gate of Allstate Arena) between 7:30am and 8:00am. The student processional begins promptly at 8:30am

Do I need to order my cap and gown from the vendor (Herff-Jones) if I already applied for graduation and submitted my cap and gown order online with CTI?
No! CTI Advising will handle all cap and gown orders with Herff-Jones this year. If you don't know if you submitted your order when you applied for graduation, please check with CTI Advising.

Information can also be found online at the commencement web site or by contacting CTI Advising.

VINCENTIAN SERVICE DAY REPORT

On Saturday, May 7, CTI faculty and staff joined with students to perform service to others at the annual Vincentian service day. The CTI team went to St. Martin de Porres School in Chicago and spent the day cleaning up the grounds and the auditorium. St. Martin school is one of 23 Catholic grade schools in Chicago that is scheduled to close forever at the end of the school year because of rising costs and diminishing support. The CTI team joined some parents and students at the end of the day in conversation about the futures that St. Martin students face. Service to these families as they said goodbye to their school was gratifying for the DePaul volunteers. The next service day will be in September during the first week of classes.
